1961

This year, 1961, is a rather interesting year for me to look back at.  Besides all of the happenings in the U.S. and abroad, two events that really matter for my family happened in this year.  These two events would strangely be my Grandmother's graduation (Mom's Mom) and the birth of my father.  Needless to say, these are two interesting things to happen in one year.  No, it wasn't planned.  Sadly though, my Father and Grandma had no idea what was about to happen.  First, the Cold War was still around with tensions high and attitudes quite cold.  Also, we were undertaking a plan that ended as humiliation for our country in Cuba.  Yes, I am talking about the Bay of Pigs.  This all boils down to one simple thought:  Democracy vs. Communism.  The Berlin Wall was perhaps the best example of this.  Nobody thought the two could co-exist at that time, but time has since proved otherwise.  Seriously, just head down to a local fast food restaurant and order their kid's meal.  When you finally get it, grab the toy and look for the "Made in China" sticker or printing on the wrapper.  Voila!  Proof that the two can co-exist.  In fact, it is amazing how well we get along with China when less than fifty years ago, we wanted to fry, shoot, extinguish, etc. every Communist we could.  Times, People, Nations, and Attitudes, all change over time.  This is just one small proof of that fact.
